Commercial season over

According to CFTK radio this morning, the commercial marine season on Skeena is over with this weeks openings...
That is good news for steelhead and weak salmon stocks. DFO is to be commended for these efforts to conserve these stocks.
Apparently, the commercial sector is not very happy with this decision and will continue to lobby hard for more access to the resource.
The commercial in-river fishery has now started with a major First Nations effort centered around Kitwanga. This is all targetting sockeye using selective fishing methods and releasing all non-target fish with the least amount of harm. More on this in a later post.
