Several members have inquired about a season outlook for 2009, especially now that the commercial season as started.
Well, we have inquiries into DFO on this but have yet to get any reply. We'd like to know the usual stuff: sockeye run size estimate; how much gillnetting likely; steelhead estimates; fishery timing...etc...etc..
We do know from the Area Chief's North Coast Update #1 that the Nass sockeye estimate is 500,000 and about half of those will be targetted for commercial catch. So that translates into some gillnet effort in Area 3.
As soon as we get any more info we'll obviously pass it along.
