Let's get to know the new Fisheries Minister

With the Skeena situation looking very much like it has the potential for an increased amount of commercial fishing in August, we thought it would be a good idea to get familiar with the new DFO Minister. If DFO North Coast continues to favour commercial fishing over steelhead conservation then we will probably be sending his office quite a few nasty messages over the next couple of weeks.

After the last federal election DFO Minister Gail Shea was replaced by a new guy....Unfortunately, he is yet another 'easterner'...this time from New Brunswick. Ms Shea didnt even know what a steelhead was...and we can probably assume the same for this guy. If his Pacific Region people and North Coast office people keep sanctioning more commercial openings in August, Mr Ashfield is going to learn pretty fast exactly what a steelhead is and how passionate its supporters can be.
