More Fishery Notices: Area 4 Skeena

Two quick Fishery Notices just arrived. The first one mentions that Area 4Skeena gillnet openings are being further assessed. And immediately after that comes one announcing a 4 day seine opening!!
It really looks like DFO is going to push the boundaries this year and go back to the days of maximizing commercial fishing opportunity.
Time to start paying attention folks as once the commercial folks get fishing they dont like to stop for anything, especially those pesky steelhead that get in the way.

So, there was a gillnet opening today and on Monday...and now they are considering another one possibly the day after tomorrow...

This Area 4 seine ITQ fishery is directed towards sockeye salmon, but pink and
coho may be retained. Chinook, chum and steelhead are mandatory release.

This is an Individual Transferable Quota fishery.  The aggregate seine quota
for this week is 21,600 sockeye salmon.  The individual transferable quota
share of sockeye is 0.9259% (e.g. 1/108 licenses).  This equates to 200 sockeye
per licence for this fishing week from Aug 04 to Aug 08.  There may be an
extension of time and/or an increase in quota based on catches and the Skeena
River run size estimate.
